Rumbling Gold Mine Run is a Take-n-Play set. It includes a gold dust Thomas, two gold ore pieces, and a fold-out playset featuring a Sodor Mining Co. gold mine, a exploding mine shaft, and a circuit of track with an additional ramp. Pressing the water tower makes the gold nuggets rattle inside the mine tunnel. Lifting the tab on the back lifts a ramp, moving Thomas through the mine and down the slope. Thomas can then go past the mine shaft and open the door, making the gold ore pieces pop out of the shaft.
Additional sets and track can be connected to three points. The set can be stored by folding up the track, placing the ramp track piece in the bottom of the mine, placing the gold ore pieces in the mine tunnel, and placing Thomas inside the building at the top of the mine, and fastening the latch to the building.

- An early description mentions that a cargo car with mining supply crate was going to be included. It also mentions that pressing the water tower would move Thomas up the ramp and through the tunnel, and that lantern lights and rumble sound effects would activate inside the tunnel. The mine would feature doors, and the bottom of the set would feature a loading area for the cargo. [1]
